It’s shorts season! And that means cute summer outfits are a necessity!

(Excuse me for a second while I tell you why I love this photo. It’s not the weird pose I’m striking or the silly smile I was throwing at my reluctant cameraman, it’s the cameraman himself! Dude 1 took this photo, with my big camera, all by himself. I swear I need to hire that kid for all future photography needs.)

I’m finding myself disproportionately excited about this because is seems like there are sooooo many cute shorts options this season.

Options for real moms, with real bodies that are called upon to do weird kid things.

Past years, I’ve struggled with shorts length (ummmm, shorty shorts are not conducive to bending down and tying shoes a bazillion times a day), and material (those wispy, flimsy made joints are all kinds of wrong for chick who dig a full panty; I’m no entirely against the stringier sort, I just don’t enjoy them for all of my daily exploits).

This year I’m feeling good about my options.

Lots of thicker material other than denim (I don’t want jean shorts to be my only option), longer inseams (that aren’t Capri, blech, or Bermuda, cool, but not for always), and fun patterns!

I found these for under $20 at Marshall’s and I love them so.

They are perfect for dressy-ish meet-ups with the girls, or to pair with a tee and a pair of sandals for a day at the lacrosse/soccer field. Even, I can throw on a sparkly top and a pair of sky high heels and hobble around a fancy restaurant or a bar with DudeDad to support me (sadly, my days of all night in high heels are long gone, my feet are not trying to hear that noise. If you catch me out on the town in heels, know that my smile is of the painful variety and don’t hug me because I will be sweating through it.).

If you’re in the market for some chic shorts for summer living, here are a few you should probably take a peek at…
