It is official: summer is over.
In fact, I’m kind of side eyeing fall right now because it has been a little sketch with its temps lately.
I don’t know about you, but I woke up to air in the 30s last week. My neighbors say it’s Turks and Caicos that’s making me a hater, I say, in what world is 35 degrees not cold?
Fortunately, my fashion game has been ready for cooler temps for months. Combine my cute jackets and leggings with the extra poundage I put on in Turks and I’m actually feeling pretty darn toasty these days.
This week, in an effort to not spend another dime on unnecessary clothing so I could save up for the pretties headed to me in my Stitch Fix box (it came Saturday!), I revived some old, furry boots to round out all of the new gear Aventura sent me to make it through fall and winter.
They are not my first choice in terms of style, but let me tell you, when it comes to warmth they are SO what’s up. Plus, they are comfortable enough to accommodate my fall food indulgences. I sat outside at a football game for two hours, in the dark, with a plate of nachos. Not once did my feet want to shrivel up and fall off and there was ample room for my food baby to expanded without needing to lean back and unbutton anything.
Warm is the only thing I care about more than style when it comes to choosing clothing. Sometimes comfort is sacrificed.
Fortunately, with the right parts I can have all of that!
The top, jacket, and skirt are all from Aventura. The leggings and boot socks are straight out of my winter weather arsenal (you can get some boot socks from here: Button Boot Socks ).
Finding the perfect balance between warmth and style is tough, but with a few good tips I’m sure you can do it too!
Here are my three stay warm and look cute style tips to help take you into winter.
Fall Style: How to Dress Warm and Look Cute
1. Fit. One’s natural inclination when it comes to trying not to freeze is to pile on as much big, warm clothing as possible. But, if you want to stay stylish while also staying warm, clothing that fits well is a must. No one ever looks fly in their dad’s sweat pants. With their dad’s sweatshirt, jacket, and boots on.
2. Material. Yes, fleece is warm. But, head to toe fleece is not very stylin’ If you want to achieve both consider including some other warm clothing materials in your cold weather arsenal. Knits, wools, and things made out of down are all as warm if not warmer than fleece and, no doubt, you’ll look more together fashionally in a knit sweater and a down puffy vest than you will in a fleece jumper. Don’t make the mistake of thinking the only way you can stay warm this winter is to head to Old Navy for whatever polar fleece zipper hoodie they have on sale this year.
3. Layering. It is an art. If you master it you can achieve style and warmth without looking marshmallowy. Marshmallowy is a look to be avoided at all costs. Also, appropriate layering allows you to be disrobe when fall plays its start-freezy-but-get-hot-by-lunch-time trick on you.
Disclosure: DudeMom is an ambassador for Aventura which means they send me clothing to check out every season. What I write about it is up to me.
